In 2024, Calier signed a collaboration agreement that clearly reflects our commitment to animal welfare and social action within the communities where we operate. We strengthened our relationship with the Granollers Animal Protection Association (APAG), a shelter for abandoned dogs and cats located near our headquarters in Les Franqueses del Vallès, Barcelona.
Following previous collaborations through our corporate volunteering program, we have now reinforced this partnership through an annual donation of medicines, hygiene products, and welfare products to support the animals in their care while they await adoption.
This initiative complements other sustainability actions aimed at contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Donation of medicines and products to APAG
“This collaboration is another step in our firm commitment to responsible pet ownership,” says Pere Rodríguez, General Manager of Calier.
Through this agreement, Calier makes an annual contribution valued at €2,000 in medicines and products to help APAG meet the needs of the more than 2,100 companion animals it shelters each year in Granollers.
This initiative ensures that dogs and cats receive proper care and remain in good health before joining their new adoptive families.
It also reflects our donation policy, which aligns with our mission of improving animal health globally while maintaining strong ties to our local community and supporting non-profit organizations.
Corporate volunteering: The commitment of our employees
As we have mentioned, our recent donation is not the first collaboration we have established with this animal welfare organisation. As Aida Barragan, head of institutional relations and administration at APAG, explains, “We had previously collaborated on an ad hoc basis and through their corporate volunteering programme, but now, with the signing of this agreement, we hope to establish a solid, long-term relationship that will enable us to continue providing direct care for abandoned animals and promote their future adoption so that they can find their forever homes as soon as possible”.
Committed to animal welfare and the health of our staff, we promote responsible pet ownership and adoption through team outings in collaboration with animal welfare organisations. Specifically, with APAG, we organised a charity walk as part of the Indukern Group’s corporate volunteering programme. As part of this, we invited our employees to walk dogs from the APAG animal welfare organisation whilst taking part in this team outing, which also helped them look after their own health and maintain an active lifestyle. The initiative was very well received and even led to an adoption by one of our colleagues from Kern Pharma, the Indukern Group’s pharmaceutical laboratory, which also took part in the event.
In 2022, we repeated this initiative, which we organised for our employees in Calier León, where we have our state-of-the-art biologics plant. On this occasion, we teamed up with the León Animal and Plant Protection Association for a family day out, extending the invitation to our employees’ children and relatives so that we could join forces in looking after and spending time with the dogs in the shelter’s care.
Employees have also participated in the Magic Line solidarity walk organized annually by the Sant Joan de Déu Foundation to raise funds for vulnerable groups. This activity promotes teamwork, solidarity, and healthy lifestyles.
A joint donation: Payroll Rounding
The social commitment of Calier and our staff also takes the form of a joint donation through the Indukern Group’s Payroll Rounding initiative. Under this scheme, employees who wish to do so can donate the decimal part of their salary to a non-profit organisation chosen by the employees themselves through a vote. The Group, for its part, matches the total amount raised through these micro-donations, thereby also supporting the cause chosen by its staff.
In the past, this initiative has resulted in financial donations to the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation, for example, totalling over 6,000 euros. More recently, a donation was made to the charity "Mi compañero de viaje", which focuses on the fight against cancer in children and young people; it received 15,000 euros thanks to this initiative. We are currently collaborating with the "Acompanya’m" project at Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, an innovative programme designed to support the mental health of children and young people through a multidisciplinary approach that also includes animal-assisted therapy.
